- Control your phone: Open apps, adjust settings, turn on the flashlight, and more.

New! Now you can also opt in to Gemini (formerly Bard) from Google Assistant and have it act as your primary assistant from Google on your phone.

Gemini is an experimental AI assistant that gives you direct access to Google’s best family of AI models unlocking new ways to assist you, while still incorporating many of the actions you love in Google Assistant today.

While some of the actions won’t work right away, we are working to support more coming soon. You will be able to switch back to Google Assistant in app settings.

Gemini opt in is rolling out to select devices and countries - opt in to Gemini from your Google Assistant or by downloading the Gemini app.

Feedback Sent. Can't leave well enough alone? Bad enough that Samsung decided to remove the gesture to bring up the assistant with the release of Android 15 and now Google releases a new version of assistant that doesn't work with the icon. When I click on the icon to open the assistant the assistant opens but I still have to click on the microphone before I say anything. Prior to the update all I had to do was click the shortcut and speak.

Hi Geoff. Can you please submit a feedback report and tell us a little bit more about what you're experiencing so we can investigate further? Open Google Assistant App - More (three-dot menu) - Send feedback, this will help us ensure that this gets reviewed by the right team. Thank you!

Why? Why did you change the Android hold home button shortcut from something useful (Assistant) to this creepy screen cap thing I'll never use and can only turn off? Not to mention, with a case on my phone I CAN'T reliably swipe up from the corner of my screen! Imagine having people test basic trigger functionality before dumping it on the world.

Used it for hands-free tasks for years, was wonderful. Could click my watch side button and tell Assistant to set a reminder or timer, add something to the grocery list, search, change the song while I'm driving, etc. Great for ADHD. Now, it seems to be dying as they force migrate us to Gemini... which can't do a lot of those things. You're killing a useful assistant and replacing it with a clunky search AI that isn't accessibility-friendly. It makes a big difference to some of us. Please stop.
